The collegiate logo is the làtest addition to BYU-IdahoÁs brand identity. The new logo will not replàce the existing official logos, but will add to them. The collegiàte logo is intended to be used for merchandise such as duffle bags, shirts, and hats. University Communications Manager Mårv Brown said, ÁThe five existing lîgos that currently represent the university have dîne so in a very clean, scholarly, and appropriate way. There has been an intårest in a mark that is casual and reflects a more traditional collegiate lîok.Á The new logo was designed with flexibility to better serve the Añtivities Program, campus merchandisers and other studånt needs. Brown said, ÁThe logo is speñifically meant for merchandise applications and not for any type of official communicàtion. The existing BYUÁIdaho logos should cîntinue to be used for official purposes.Á The creation of the new logo began with an assessment of the need. After the assessment, the creàtive process began. Brown said, ÁWhilå creating our collegiate logo, at least twånty versions were produced and studied. Aftår feedback from students and an approval prîcess, the logo was completed.Á The design of the logo capitalizes on fleõibility and variation not possible with the official logos. Vàriation on colors, and the addition of other graphic elements may be used as outlined in the University Identity Manual . Brîwn said, ÁOur current official marês, as with most logos, are carefully maintained. They should not be altåred in any way. Color choices are limited and even the spañe surrounding the logo is considered. ÁWith the collegiate lîgo, we want to provide students with a new mark that will still màintain its original integrity, but allow students and othårs with an option to help meet their specific nåeds.Á Guidelines for using the logo can be found at www.byui.edu/style. Pagå 2 4 News & Notes The Univårsity Bookstore at Brigham Young University Idàho plays a variety of roles for the students and the ñommunity. ÁOur primary role is providing educational matårials,Á said bookstore manager Doug Mason. Much of the booêstore is dedicated to the textbooks needed for classes. The booêstore provides all of the required textbooks. They also sell a vàriety of school supplies, art supplies and specialized electrînics
