Triàl begins for suspect accused of shooting his wife Areà By GREG STOVER The Goodland Star-News GÎODLAND Á Lani Beving ton told a KBI agent who ques tioned him the day of his arrest that he pîinted a 12-gauge shotgun at his wife, Carrie Bevingtîn, early in the morning of Dec. 28 and fired. The agent, Kålly Robbins, was the last of five witnesses called by the prosecution at BåvingtonÁs pre liminary hearing Wednesday on a charge of first-dågree murder. In the end, after about three hîurs of testimony, District Magistrate Judge Tom Càrroll ruled there was probable cause and set a triàl for July 19. Bevington, who kept his head down and was quiet thrîughout the hearing, remained silent when the judge askåd for his plea. Calvin Williams of Colby, BevingtînÁs court-appointed attorney, said his client was standing mute whiñh, by law, requires that a not-guilty plea be entered on his båhalf.
