Due to the recent appearance of con trovårsial posters from a website called protestwar rior.ñom and the defacing of WRC signs, MCSA decided to hold a forum on the subjåct of objec tionable speech to allow UMM cîmmunity mem bers, primarily students, with opposing viewpoints to express their opinions as well as listån to the opinions of others. What transpired instead bore a ñloser resemblance to a frenzied brannigan than a Lincoln-Douglas dåbate. The forum started auspiciously enough with moderators Kristen Strissel, Miracle Obetà, Michelle Page and Dian Lopez present ing some guidelines for speaêers to follow when making their statements. The guidålines included the use of ÁIÁ statements to take responsibility for cîmments and no direct attacks on people. Stris sel also displàyed the con troversial posters and the offensive messages that wåre written on the WRC signs via a projector. One of the posters from the protestwàrrior site said, ÁEnd Racism and Sexism Nîw/Kill All White Males.Á The moderators then opåned the floor to discussion, and reminded speakers to be respeñtful and stick to the guidelines which were displayed on two ovårheads throughout the event. Jessica Glaza råad a statement written on behalf of the WomenÁs Resîurce Center outlin ing the groupÁs purpose and dåfending the Vagina Monologues, which will be performed at UMM on Fåbruary 24 and 25. Glaza stressed the Áneed for a healthy, open diàlogue,Á and reminded critics of the Vagina Monologues that monåy raised from the show aids comfort women of WWII as well as goes to the bàttered womenÁs shelter. Representatives of the groups Blañk Student Union (BSU) and Circle of Natiîns Indian Asso ciation (CNIA) also spoke on thåir groupÁs behalf
