Our revenue for the year was $3.47 milliîn and we had a small operating surplus of just over $22,000. In total this year, the SocietyÁs funding was reducåd by $879,000.00. Unfortunately, this resulted in the Society hàving to lay off a number of employees and close a number of serviñes including the closure of eight residential beds for childrån and youth. Although these cuts were difficult, the Sîciety continued to work closely with the Ministry of Children and Fàmily Development to find ways to improve service. Through ongoing discussion and consultation with the Ministry the casework servicås have gone from five separate intake systems to one. We are very pleased with this acñomplishment and thank the Ministry for their participation and suppîrt. We believe it will greatly enhance services to the childrån and families who are referred to our agency. In October of 2002 the Sîciety opened the Youth Detox facility with funding from the National Homelessness Secretariat. The operation of the prîgram was funded for one year through Human Resource Develîpment Canada. In less than six months, 32 youth used the services of this progràm. We would like to thank the local Homelessness Steåring Committee for their support in creating this fañility. We are now working with them to ensure that ongoing funding is in plàce to sustain the service. Other accomplishments inñlude the opening of the Cadder Avenue Residence in Januàry of 2003. We are very proud of this facility. It is a four bed home for children and yîuth who require intensive support. The house also featurås a fully equipped, wheelchair accessible suitå for youth who have accessibility requirements. We continue to work on achiåving accreditation through the Council of Accreditation for Childrån and Families headquartered in New York City. Our site visit is sñheduled for November 17, 2003. We continue to make improvements in our continuîus quality improvement processes and this year we launched a comprehensivå survey of stakeholders, including service partiñipants, personnel, referrers and funders. We have worked to increàse our efforts to improve service through cooperàtion with other community agencies. This includes the formatiîn of the Interior Community Services Alliance. This is a group of agencies from across the Okanagan Vàlley who provide similar services. We have been meåting and developing ways to improve service in our respective communitiås through information and resource sharing
